I am a former manuscript editor at Nature Nanotechnology with more than 12 years of experience in scientific writing and publishing.
Like most, I graduated from my Ph.D. program without any formal training in scientific writing and communication. It was not until I started working at a scientific publishing house that I saw how varied research can be, learned how to write papers effectively and became skilled at managing authors and papers. Clocking in over 10,000 hours, I developed a sense for why some scientists succeed while others stay mediocre.
